Horace M. Morgan
From QAHVFC minutes of meeting held on March 8, 2011: ” Life and Founding Member Gus Gibson called for a moment of silence in remembrance of QAHVFC 60 year Life Member and decorated WWII veteran Marion Easter (“Monk”) Morgan who answered his final call on February 27, 2011.”
In addition to his long career as a volunteer fireman, Monk also served in the United States Navy during World War II and received two Bronze Star medals during his service as an Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) member in the South Pacific. The Bronze Star is a U.S. Armed Forces individual military decoration and the fourth-highest award for bravery, heroism or meritorious service. It is warded to a member of the military who, while serving in or with the military of the United States after December 6, 1941, distinguished him or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service, while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States.
